Yana Tarakanova è una giovane artista russa nata nel 1995 a Zelenograd. Attualmente vive a Bratislava, in Slovacchia.L’attivismo creativo ha sempre avuto un ruolo significativo nella sua vita. Il suo primo contatto con l’arte attivista è avvenuto attraverso la partecipazione a call online e mostre offline organizzate dall’Associazione dei Peggiori Artisti (AHUHU). È stata ispirata dalla dedizione di questa comunità, specialmente dopo un episodio in cui la polizia ha saldato le porte di una delle loro esposizioni, un fatto poi raccontato da Radio Svoboda. Successivamente, è entrata in contatto con altre organizzazioni di protesta, come la Resistenza Femminista Contro la Guerra (FAS). Nell’autunno del 2022, FAS ha lanciato l’iniziativa “antiwartober”, durante la quale Yana ha partecipato a compiti creativi quotidiani. La sua partecipazione l’ha portata a intervenire in una discussione su Radio Svoboda insieme ad altri partecipanti. Nel gennaio 2023, a Berlino, si è tenuta una mostra con le opere realizzate durante questo progetto. Nel 2024, ha partecipato alla mostra-conferenza “Donne contro il Cremlino” ad Amsterdam. Nel 2025, ha rappresentato il team curatoriale della mostra. Dal febbraio 2023, Yana è illustratrice per il sito d’informazione The Insider, contribuendo con illustrazioni per le loro pagine Twitter e Instagram.

Yana Tarakanova is a young Russian artist born in 1995 in Zelenograd. She currently lives in Bratislava, Slovakia. Creative activism has always played a significant role in her life. Her first encounter with activist art came through participating in online open calls and offline exhibitions organized by the Association of Worst Artists (AHUHU). She was inspired by the dedication of this community, especially after an incident in which the police welded shut the doors of one of their exhibitions—a story later covered by Radio Svoboda. She later connected with other protest organizations, such as the Feminist Anti-War Resistance (FAS). In the autumn of 2022, FAS launched the “antiwartober” initiative, during which Yana took part in daily creative challenges. Her participation led her to join a discussion on Radio Svoboda alongside other contributors. In January 2023, a Berlin exhibition showcased the works created during this project. In 2024, she took part in the “Women Against the Kremlin” exhibition-conference in Amsterdam. In 2025, she represented the curatorial team of the exhibition.

Since February 2023, Yana has been an illustrator for the news website The Insider, contributing illustrations for their Twitter and Instagram pages.
