MAKANO, artista di origine congolese nato nel 2000, vive attualmente in Uganda a causa dei conflitti nella sua terra natale. Fin da piccolo ha mostrato una passione per l’arte, che è diventata il suo mezzo per affrontare il dolore e le difficoltà.

Nel 2018, la tragica perdita dei suoi genitori durante la guerra civile nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo ha segnato una svolta nella sua vita, spingendolo a trasformare il suo dolore in una potente forza creativa.

Le sue opere riflettono le sue lotte interiori, nate dalla depressione e dalla frustrazione, e fungono da sfogo terapeutico. Attraverso la sua arte, affronta temi di identità, corruzione, vita e morte, e sfida gli stereotipi pervasivi, dando voce agli emarginati. La sua tecnica unica combina pittura e scrittura,

creando una narrazione visiva e letteraria che esplora profon- di interrogativi esistenziali.

Attualmente, fa volontariato presso “Faces Up Uganda”, un’organizzazione che promuove i talenti artistici tra i giovani. Condivide la sua esperienza e le sue abilità con la nuova generazione di artisti, ispirandoli con il suo percorso di resilienza e creatività.

Nella sua dichiarazione artistica, descrive il suo processo creativo come un flusso inconscio privo di decisioni consapevoli, che permette alla forma più pura di creatività di emergere. Le sue opere sono riflessi interiori, rappresentate spesso da un grande occhio bianco che piange lacrime scure, simbolo

del suo terzo occhio che vede un futuro oscuro, espressione del suo stato di smarrimento e angoscia.

MAKANO crea non per piacere, ma per necessità, liberandosi dai pensieri e dalle emozioni che lo perseguitano attraverso l’atto creativo. La sua arte è un’esplosione organizzata di energie casuali, che offre agli spettatori l’opportunità di esplorare il suo subconscio e di percepire la sfumatura tra caos e ordine, tra passato e futuro, tra vita e morte.

Since childhood, he has shown a passion for art, which has become his way of coping with pain and difficulties. In 2018, the tragic loss of his parents during the civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo marked a turning point in his life, pushing him to transform his pain into a powerful creative force.

His works reflect his internal struggles, born from depression and frustration, and serve as a therapeutic outlet. Through his art, addresses themes of identity, corruption, life, and death, challenging pervasive stereotypes and giving voice to the marginalized. His unique technique combines painting and writing, creating a visual and literary narrative that explores profound existential questions.

Currently volunteers at “Faces Up Uganda,” an organization that promotes artistic talents among young people. He shares his experience and skills with the new generation of artists, inspiring them with his journey of resilience and creativity.

In his artistic statement, he describes his creative process as an unconscious flow free from conscious decisions, allowing the purest form of creativity to emerge. His works are inner reflections, often represented by a large white eye shedding dark tears, a symbol of his third eye that sees a dark future, expressing his state of loss and anguish.

MAKANO creates not for pleasure but out of necessity, freeing himself from the thoughts and emotions that haunt him through the act of creation. His art is an organized explosion of random energies, offering viewers the opportunity to explore his subconscious and perceive the nuance between chaos and order, between past and future, between life and death.
